Gaudi’s Casa Mila also has a irregular fluid form constructed from concrete. I was a little concerned that my building was too irregular and was there anyway that something like that can actually be made and it can. It may take quite a long time but it can be done!

Hospital de Sant Pau

Thinking about palette. I knew that I wanted wood and the concrete. I also knew that I needed one more material so that there was some variety. I came across this picture and I think that wrought iron will be a good one because it adds another colour and a completely different texture. It adds a different dynamic element as it can be sculpted into fluid shapes unlike concrete and wood.

Hospital de Sant Pau

This one interested me because of how the ceiling flows into the columns. I think that incorporating this rather than just the typical prefabricated I beams would make my architectural concept more convincing.

Casa Batlo

Torre de la Creu

The two images above I chose because I like the dynamic fluidity of them…just more things to consider in my one.

The final two images are of Gaudi’s Bellesguard. I thought that they captured a similar look to what I am trying to achieve. Minus the floral tile pattern it has a similar palette of concrete, wood and wrought iron. What I like most is how clean and chique the concrete looks because I don’t want a grungy grey looking concrete

Google Head Office

I did some research into the google head office and this video is what I found. Seems like a pretty cool place to work.

Ideas from this which I think could work in my 5 storey building is the idea of the work place being like some sort of playground. This informal setting where everyone is having fun. This in turn makes them more productive and enjoy work more. I think that this could work for the architectural office space because being a creative field of work I think that this type of setting would be much more inspiring.

An example of this type of office space closer to home is the telecom office on Victoria street. the employee’s don’t have offices but just big open spaces filled with couches, bean bags, see-saw chairs and chairs like pods which hang from the ceiling.

My first thought of this was that it would be pretty hard for the architect to draw accurately without a drawing board but everything is done on computer today other than the very first sketches. Laptops are so portable, everyone already takes them everywhere anyway so I could utilise this in the office space.

Meeting with tutors

Roberta was away today to I talked through a plan of attack for the next two weeks with Anthony.

I am going to focus in on developing details of my building to make my design idea more convincing throughout. This means looking into in particular the columns which I added last week. There were very industrial looking but I think that they need to have a but more of a flow to them, in that sense an art nouveau feel. Another thing that I am going to look into is the windows. At the moment they are very random but I am going to look into where they are positioned and what size and shape they need to be for the space inside. Anthony suggested that I look at Gaudi for some inspiration in this. Maybe I can have convex windows or random bulging shapes…some could even be coloured but I don’t know if I really like the idea of colour because it make look tacky.

The final element that I am going to give special consideration throughout the  process is how peole will specifically move throughout the space. At my crit last Thursday Nate suggested I do something really interesting with this. For example in the architectural office I could have the toilet, kitchenette, printer and photocopier all over the place so that the users would have to walk past all of his or her colleges at different time to get to these spaces. It would force and interaction so that they would all be working together and know what every individuals project was at the time. This would mean that they could all assist each other. When mentioning this to Anthony he suggested that I do some research on the google office.

I thought that the idea was very interesting in developing the view from the inside looking out as this is what the users will see so the space inside is more important. I think that this idea could have been pushed further by positioning the prims so that they frame certain views rather than a more random assortment of shapes. I also think that it would have been nice to see some thought put into how the interior space would be divided up for the users and that the elevator should have had more thought and design put into it. I did love the use of Photoshop though!!

I thought that this piece of architecture was very well thought out. I was really impressed by the techniques used to subtly manipulate the  floe of people. I was also very impressed that he went and learnt the script to make the prims glow brighter because scratch couldn’t do it. I wasn’t use about the shape of the sculptie though b=maybe more thought could be put into one that would enhance the architectural idea more but still keep with the design which is very linear whereas the sculptie is wavy.

I thought that the context of the building was very realistic to site which is great, the texture is very convincing also. I think that the concept of playing with undulating surfaces and the effect that light has on this is a strong and good idea but I think that there is much potential to push it further and incorporate it into columns and on more wall surfaces. It is a good idea to use it on the windows for privacy also.

this is the link to my video. I found that the music was really hard to chose out but I think that this music works well with the design and my word with out taking away from the visual

For me when I think of gifting I think of sharing. I found it easier to search this as I didn’t really want Christmas present ideas for the family or anything

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soAk3F0wX9s

I thought this one was quite funny just how we all share today and how dependant our life is on this technology

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmR-BBj3U1M

and this one is really cute and just shows how you can really benefit from sharing even if you are scared about putting your ideas out there to be scrutinised.

INTRASQUSITE

19 Sep

this week we have been asked to invent a word that would would like people of the future to describe our work looking back on it. I first thought up two words and then went about combining them. the first word that I chose was intricate because I want my architecture to be really complex and involved. I think that even the littlest detailing should be cleverly thought out.  My second word was exquisite because I want my architecture to be beautiful and refined, fantastic and unique. when I combined these I got Intriquisite.

Archit:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0177UsyX0U

Archit’s design idea of gathering was how we centre around the family dining table so his building was centred around a meeting room. I thought that the process he followed was very detailed and vigorous. I really liked the idea of the eaves continuing onto the next building as ornamentation midway up. One question that I has was should the Architects office not be at the front because this is the one person in the building the clients will actually want to come in and see but he had thought about this and they would use the meeting room which is the room which clients would first enter off the street. I thought that the facade idea had potential but the way in which it was executed could have looked a bit messy.

Barry:

I thought that Barry’s drawings were extremely tidy and very well detailed but it was clear that e rushed at the end I liked how he used water colour paper and paint. I thought that more thought could have been put into the design especially the interior because it seemed quite bland an unoriginal. Barry did  have so good advice for next week though to make sure that i take photos every couple of pen or pencil lines that I make.

David:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMprrhnkDS0

David’s was based on the tetris game. His page really stood out to me because of the brown paper and the paint.the hand looks really good in the video it looks like a actual video  of him drawing rather than a series of photos.  The pop out people were amazing! I could see that he had put a lot of thought into the facade of the building but I thought that having a completely different look on the every face of the building could look a bit too much.
